Think of this as the anti-Chillwave playlist (although, Chillwave gets pretty comfy as we move closer to Autumn with this cooler weather we’ve been having).

So the SUMMA for the year of the Ladies has been really awesome. There’s been a bunch of awesomeness this summer. Remixes keeping our favs. from last year alive, the return of Toni Braxton, M.I.A. going off the deep end with her anti-dance dance tunes, and Nicki Minaj being EVERYWHERE (and having the first #1 Rap hit not as a collabo performance in nearly a decade). Robyn’s making some of the best pop music on the PLANET (and 3 SOLD OUT shows in NYC to prove it), and Salt-n-Pepa playing NYC.

During a year of really good trash; we feel no guilt dancing to Ke$ha (and you shouldn’t either). Don’t forget the Shangs who abandon their murder ballads for one of the greatest summer classics about lost summer love. The sleeper hits of La Roux and Miss Keys are here. Ariel Pink is finding a massive audience with his most accessible record (possibly alienating original fans except ‘Before Today’ is a undeniably terrific record). Leela James is growing leaps and bounds and making room in the stars as a classic soul singer, and she simply has the BEST song of the YEAR “Tell Me You Love Me”. Trina is AMAZING, and Miss Hill is back with a track of unknown origin. The Count & Sinden produced Kid Sister track “Big N Bad” samples Yazoo (who are releasing the souvenir record to there 25th anniversary tour in September). The X-Tina/Strokes mash-up harbingers the return of the Strokes next year (with a new album after a few live dates). Biggie makes Miley cool. We remember Mariah 13 years after she made “Honey” a late summer classic, and the 25 anniversary of Kate Bush’s return from a three year hiatus with her new sound of “Running Up That Hill (Deal With God)” & ‘Hounds of Love’. Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are the simply the best live revue and have one of the fiercest soul records. Keri is at the “Breaking Point” readying her second album. Jagged Edge is still making us go crazy with their buzz single, and it’s boss use of the Art of Noise sample.

But most importantly I decided to bookend the mix with the summer kick-off jam that is Robyn’s first single from her trilogy of ‘Body Talk’ albums and closing with the second single (which is the final statement for the summer and failed summer romance).
